CMS, short for Camera Monitor System, generally refers to the electronic exterior rearview mirror system in automotive applications. It usually captures the view through external cameras, transmits signals via the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for further processing, and finally provides the driver with a view through the monitor. Additionally, it can integrate functions such as blind spot warning and obstacle alerts.
On December 29, 2022, China's new national standard for automotive rearview mirrors, GB 15084-2022, was officially released, meaning that vehicles equipped with CMS in China have been legally mass-produced and put on the road since July 1, 2023. In ISO 16505:2015 Road Vehicles — Ergonomic and Performance Aspects of Camera Monitoring Systems and GB 15084 Motor Vehicles — Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Vision Devices, relevant provisions have been made for the requirements of CMS systems.
